Selfie

In Rounding off 2013 I chose to look at the most important news event of the year - The word "selfie" was announced as the "word of the year" by the Oxford English Dictionary.

Selfie - "a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website"

In honour to the word I created a poster containing a catalogue of my characters celebrating in the appropriate manner.

I will be uploading a preview a day on my Facebook and Twitter pages. Keep watching.

In moving forward every good company deserves a good logo, and here is mine:

Amie

Here is part 4 of my 'Reflections' series, and possibly my favourite. This is Amie.

Amie is based on keeping the memory of a loved one through the passing down of objects that remind us of them. Amie holds a locket which was owned by her mother. When she looks at the locket she reflects on the sadness of the loss, yet also has that warmth comforted by holding onto a piece of her.

Mario

Part 3 of the 'Reflection' theme is Mario.

Mario is based on quite a few of the friends I have made since moving to London over 2 years ago. People move to London from all over the world looking to fulfil their dreams of making their way in life, experiencing something new and growing as an individual. There is a lot of love for London and the possibilities the city holds. Mario looks out to the london skyline with hope, ambition and appreciation.

Jason

Part 2 of 4 from my 'Reflections' theme is Jason.

Photographs are a great thing, they are taken to capture fond memories you want to keep and reminisce through. Photographs can bring many emotions through memories of lost loved ones, old romances, better times, or harder times. In this moment I chose to show a childlike joy; looking back on recent activities and events with only positive feelings. The character is caught up in the rush of the moment.

Wayne Poster

Wayne

Introducing Wayne. 1 part in a 4 piece (so far) collection based on the theme of 'Reflection' looking at life events and how each character reflects on these moments.
Wayne likes to express himself through his body art of memories and emotions. Some tattoos on him include:

  • The James Dean quote 'Dream as if you'll live forever, Live as if you'll die today".
  • A city scape of London.
  • 3 of my previous characters.
  • A ladder to love.
  • A replica of my very own tattoo of a boy in the clouds.

Reflection, A sneak preview

I have been hard at work producing a collection around the theme of 'Reflection' (in the sit and think sense...not like a puddle). The initial movement of this project has been producing a set of 4 characters with their own tale and state of reflection. All 4 models are now complete and I am currently working on layouts and environment, ready for the photography.

And here is a sneak peek of the 4 characters to wet your appetite:

Art of Nurture Regional Finals

I am delighted to have been picked as one of the 4 regional finalists for the Art of Nurture Competition.

I entered the below image based around the theme of "We Stretch Ourselves", linking to the idea of childhood dreams.

The Judging takes place on March 8th at an event at Manchester Art Gallery. 2 will be taken through to the National finals...which I won't lie, would be nice :)
